To be accepted onto any of our courses trainees will need to demonstrate evidence of the following qualities, or the potential for developing them:
This qualification is intended for candidates who have already acquired a recognised qualification in counselling skills and want to:
This course is aimed at people who use counselling skills as part of their work role and wish to improve their skills. This course does not qualify students to become professional counsellors, but provides progression to further counselling training.
This course does not require learners to have a placement. The programme encourages personal development and reflective practice alongside improved theoretical understanding of counselling.
This qualification could lead to employment or increase employability for those whose role is to support others in e.g. health and social care work, teaching and learning, advocacy and mediation, support and project work, other helping roles.
It provides additional skills for those already in employment likely to lead to increased opportunities for promotion and advancement.
This qualification enables learners to work towards becoming a reflective practitioner of counselling by considering theories of human development, self-awareness, supervision and issues of difference and diversity.
It also provides knowledge and understanding of the three main core theories and theorists that underpin counselling and addresses the nature of psychological problems and how they may be approached.
The specialist skills and knowledge gained in this qualification will be applicable in a range of working contexts.
It will enable learners to understand the need for a firm grasp of a coherent theoretical approach to counselling or supporting others.

This is particularly important prior to starting work in a supervised placement if learners progress to Level 4.
The Level 3 Course is taught by a member of NWCH’s training team. All our trainers are qualified counsellors and are registered with the BACP.
Christopher Morris
Prior to becoming a counsellor, Christopher worked for over 20 years in health and social care, establishing and managing bespoke services for people with severe mental ill health, Autism and learning disabilities. He was responsible for developing specialist supported living environments for people who were considered at risk following the ‘Transforming Care: A National Response to Winterbourne View Hospital’ report. He was also a vocational learning assessor and has delivered a wide range of Mental Health, Positive Behaviour Management, and Autism Awareness trainings to front line mental health staff, teachers, GP’s and support workers.
He is a BACP qualified counsellor, experienced in working with children, young people and adults. Having trained as an integrative and relational psychotherapist, he is able to make use of a range of models and approaches to therapy. Furthermore, he places a great deal of emphasis on the need for a positive therapeutic relationship between the therapist and client.
Christopher is a highly experienced trainer who oversees all of the NWCH training. He ensures that all students receive detailed and informative feedback to support their learning and enjoys seeing people develop their skills and passion for the profession.
Sessions are a mixture of teaching; group work and practical role play exercises to develop counselling skills. Students are introduced to counselling theory to set the context for counselling but the emphasis at this level is on the development of practical skills. While there are academic elements, the course involves self-reflection and encourages growth in self-awareness. Each student receives a comprehensive course manual including additional background reading, with a comprehensive reading list. Guidance and support is provided, to write the journals, study for the exam and complete the course criteria.
The course is accredited by AIM Awards and is a nationally regulated OFQUAL qualification.
Progression: Successful candidates can progress on to our Level 4 and Level 5 Diplomas to complete your training as a qualified Counsellor.
Our Level 3 course is Quality Checked by The National Counselling Society
This course has been given Quality Checked training recognition by the National Counselling Society (NCS). This course alone is not a route to the Accredited Register nor does it fully equip a participant to practice as a qualified practitioner or refer to themselves as ‘a specialist’ in the subject matter unless they have other qualifications to support this
We take pride in ensuring your learning experience is structured, supportive and enjoyable. All course tutors are qualified counsellors and registered with the BACP/NCS.

Young person Accessing NWCH Counselling Service
My son is opening up to Wayne about all aspects of losing his Dad - happy memories and the painful truth that he won’t be coming back. Wayne has taught him to acknowledge the pain but also remember the many happy times. The counselling he has had with Wayne has been invaluable.

Coming in for couples counselling, we were both nervous about how the session would work having not done anything like this before.
He listened to each of us and made it feel very light-hearted and easy. We were able to share our feelings and thoughts and Ian gently guided us to explain our views to help us see each other’s views and gave us things to think about for next week.

Personally, I was a very sceptical individual and initially attended as a good Will gesture to my family who had encouraged me to do so……. that being said I found myself to be able to talk to (let’s be honest, a stranger) about my life and its difficulties in an open and comfortable fashion……. don’t get me wrong I’m no soft touch! But I found it genuinely comforting to be able to do so! …. it makes me ask and look for answers from myself ….. rather than someone with a title telling me what’s wrong……,

The match of counsellor has meant my husband looks forward to his sessions & already is feeling happier & we as a family are seeing a difference. It is detail like this that makes asking for help via the NW Counselling Hub stand out – plus the reassurance all counsellors are qualified.
We cannot recommend the NW Counselling Hub enough and thank them for all they are doing for our family.

“We want to support our team when ‘life happens’. We asked NWCH to be our ‘go to’ support service for counselling and emotional support to help members of our team, if they need it, get them through some difficult personal issues such as bereavement and anxiety. The team at the hub are incredibly supportive and have provided a lifeline to our team”
Lincoln Employer referring employees to NWCH Counselling Service.
“NWCH have been providing counselling services to our employees for a few years now and I can honestly say that they have made a significant difference to many of their lives.
We are a company that believes in investing in our staff, and it is great to see when that investment is so profound and has such a positive impact, especially when it comes to people’s wellbeing.
Thank you NWCH, for enabling us to offer our teams such fantastic support and help to feel better when they face challenging times.”
