Join us for a packed half day conference on Supporting

Domestic Abuse Awareness

Created especially for mental health professionals, therapists and employers to learn how to create safe spaces to talk about the issue of Domestic Abuse.

With many victims at risk, yet not aware that they’re being subjected to abuse, this online event, brought to you by three of the region’s key organisations will not only outline the legal obligations but raise awareness for therapists, professionals and community groups who come into contact with victims.

With Domestic Abuse on the increase, be it manipulation, financial or social control, and intimidation as much as violent and sexual abuse, it is everyone’s problem and one we address together with a sensitive, compassionate and informed mix of workshops and expert speakers.

Keynote Speakers:

Robin Logie

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) takes the child back to the traumas or adverse life events that have sown the seeds for their current psychological difficulties and helps them to reprocess and come to terms with what has happened to them. EMDR is recommended by NICE and WHO for the treatment of PTSD in children, and research studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of this therapy for many other psychological disorders.

Robin Logie will explain how this therapy works in practice and explain the theory behind it. He will also mention how it can be adapted for work with children, even those who have no memory of their trauma.

Christopher Morris

Autism is a developmental disorder that affects social interaction, communication, and behaviour, presenting unique challenges for counsellors. This session will explore different approaches to working with this client group and asks the question; should we be thinking outside of the box when working with children and young people who have ASD?

We will also discuss the specific challenges counsellors may face, including communication challenges, sensory sensitivities, limited social skills, repetitive behaviours, a lack of understanding of emotions, and a resistance to change.

You will gain valuable insights and tools to tailor your therapy approach to the unique needs of children and young people with autism, involving parents and caregivers to achieve positive outcomes. This session is a must-attend for any counsellor psychotherapist looking to enhance their practice and support this client group more effectively.

Alex Lynam, Beyond the Binary

Alex is a non-binary business owner who has been featured in Metro, PinkNews, Business up North and Business Manchester for their incredible work of sharing their personal journey and mission of LGBTQIA+ inclusion. They are an up and coming public speaker, inviting people to Not Fear Queer conversations. They have worked with 1000s of people from business, communities, and family dynamics to assist on the journey of self-discovery and how we can create an active inclusion culture. Alex has worked with local schools addressing a student body of 700 individuals and provided pastoral support and staff training giving knowledge and skills to help support and empower their young people positively for greater movements for active inclusion within the school setting.

Alex prides themselves on having a nurturing and positive approach to conversations we can fear to have, so that everyone can have the space to grow, expand and see people as their authentic selves.

Alex will be discussing the importance of championing our LGBTQIA+ youths and why this has a significant impact on their mental health. Giving you the awareness and knowledge of how we can do this positively so that we can help them navigate their self-discovery journey and empower them to be their full authentic selves.
