Are you professionally ready to support children and young people?
Created for mental health professionals and therapists to learn how to create safe spaces to talk about issues specific to young people, and families wanting to know more about how to support their children and young people with access to the services and expertise they need..
Created especially for mental health professionals, therapists and employers to learn how to create safe spaces to talk about the issue of Domestic Abuse.
With many victims at risk, yet not aware that they’re being subjected to abuse, this online event, brought to you by three of the region’s key organisations will not only outline the legal obligations but raise awareness for therapists, professionals and community groups who come into contact with victims.
With Domestic Abuse on the increase, be it manipulation, financial or social control, and intimidation as much as violent and sexual abuse, it is everyone’s problem and one we address together with a sensitive, compassionate and informed mix of workshops and expert speakers.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) takes the child back to the traumas or adverse life events that have sown the seeds for their current psychological difficulties and helps them to reprocess and come to terms with what has happened to them. EMDR is recommended by NICE and WHO for the treatment of PTSD in children, and research studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of this therapy for many other psychological disorders.
Robin Logie will explain how this therapy works in practice and explain the theory behind it. He will also mention how it can be adapted for work with children, even those who have no memory of their trauma.
Autism is a developmental disorder that affects social interaction, communication, and behaviour, presenting unique challenges for counsellors. This session will explore different approaches to working with this client group and asks the question; should we be thinking outside of the box when working with children and young people who have ASD?
We will also discuss the specific challenges counsellors may face, including communication challenges, sensory sensitivities, limited social skills, repetitive behaviours, a lack of understanding of emotions, and a resistance to change.
You will gain valuable insights and tools to tailor your therapy approach to the unique needs of children and young people with autism, involving parents and caregivers to achieve positive outcomes. This session is a must-attend for any counsellor psychotherapist looking to enhance their practice and support this client group more effectively.

Young person Accessing NWCH Counselling Service
My son is opening up to Wayne about all aspects of losing his Dad - happy memories and the painful truth that he won’t be coming back. Wayne has taught him to acknowledge the pain but also remember the many happy times. The counselling he has had with Wayne has been invaluable.

Coming in for couples counselling, we were both nervous about how the session would work having not done anything like this before.
He listened to each of us and made it feel very light-hearted and easy. We were able to share our feelings and thoughts and Ian gently guided us to explain our views to help us see each other’s views and gave us things to think about for next week.

Personally, I was a very sceptical individual and initially attended as a good Will gesture to my family who had encouraged me to do so……. that being said I found myself to be able to talk to (let’s be honest, a stranger) about my life and its difficulties in an open and comfortable fashion……. don’t get me wrong I’m no soft touch! But I found it genuinely comforting to be able to do so! …. it makes me ask and look for answers from myself ….. rather than someone with a title telling me what’s wrong……,

We cannot recommend the NW Counselling Hub enough and thank them for all they are doing for our family.
